Grand Canyon Fast Facts
Grand Canyon – one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world and one of the most impressive monuments to the light striking the Earth. Some people say that if you have seen it once, you have seen enough. I, however, agree wholeheartedly. Is more than easy on the eyes is a miracle.
- The Grand Canyon stretches 277 miles from the plains of northern Arizona. It has an average depth of about a mile and a point is more than 18 miles from the rim to rim.
- The canyon is over 250 species of birds, five species of reptiles, and almost 100 species of mammals, some of which are native and unique to the cannon.
- The Colorado River through the canyon in an average width of nearly 300 feet deep and about 100 feet. Their current average of 1,000 cubic feet per second, which is often compared to the speed of basketball through 1000 every second.
- The northern edge of the Grand Canyon is much higher than its southern edge, in places, almost a mile high. There is only one bridge that goes from south to north through the canyon, because of this large difference in height.
- The temperature difference between the edge and bottom of the canyon can be up to 35 degrees.
- White water rafting is so popular rapids in the Grand Canyon, that if you are lucky enough to go traveling, they are not allowed back in the calendar year. The waiting list for white water rafting on the Colorado River is now almost a year and a half long.
- The Grand Canyon became a national monument in 1908, four years before Arizona became a state. The area became a national park in 1919.
- Although only five percent of the park is intensively investigated by the artifacts have been found over 2,700 artifacts. The oldest of them, left by Archaic cultures of the desert, until 3,000-4,000 years.
The Grand Canyon can be overwhelming for first time visitors, but can also be a favorite holiday for families, new romances, or anyone interested in pure, natural beauty. If you have not had the opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon, you must do so as soon as possible.
